Judges 12 ·

1

And the men of Efrayim were mustered, and crossed to Żafon, and said to Yiftaĥ, Why didst thou pass over to fight against the children of ῾Ammon, and didst not call us to go with thee? we will burn thy house upon thee with fire.

2

And Yiftaĥ said to them, I and my people were at great strife with the children of ῾Ammon; and when I called you, you delivered me not out of their hands.

3

And when I saw that you delivered me not, I took my life in my hands, and passed over against the children of ῾Ammon; and the Lord delivered them into my hand: why then are you come up to me this day, to fight against me?

4

Then Yiftaĥ gathered together all the men of Gil῾ad and fought Efrayim, for they had said, You of Gil῾ad are outcasts of Efrayim amongst Efrayim and amongst Menashshe.

5

And Gil῾ad seized the passages of the Yarden before Efrayim: and it was so, that when the fugitives of Efrayim would say, let me cross; that the men of Gil῾ad would say to him, Art thou an Efratite? If he said, No;

6

then they said to him, say now Shibbolet: and he said Sibbolet: for he could not frame to pronounce it right. Then they took him, and slew him at the fords of the Yarden; and there fell at that time of Efrayim forty two thousand.

7

וַיִּשְׁפֹּ֥ט יִפְתָּ֛ח אֶת־יִשְׂרָאֵ֖ל שֵׁ֣שׁ שָׁנִ֑ים וַיָּ֗מׇת יִפְתָּח֙ הַגִּלְעָדִ֔י וַיִּקָּבֵ֖ר בְּעָרֵ֥י גִלְעָֽד׃ {פ}

And Yiftaĥ judged Yisra᾽el for six years. Then Yiftaĥ the Gil῾adite died, and was buried in one of the cities of Gil῾ad.

8

And after him Ivżan of Bet-leĥem judged Yisra᾽el.

9

And he had thirty sons, and thirty daughters, whom he sent abroad, and took in thirty daughters from abroad for his sons. And he judged Yisra᾽el for seven years.

10

וַיָּ֣מׇת אִבְצָ֔ן וַיִּקָּבֵ֖ר בְּבֵ֥ית לָֽחֶם׃ {פ}

Then died Ivżan, and was buried at Bet-leĥem.

11

And after him Elon, a Zevulonite, judged Yisra᾽el, and he judged Yisra᾽el for ten years.

12

וַיָּ֖מׇת אֵיל֣וֹן הַזְּבוּלֹנִ֑י וַיִּקָּבֵ֥ר בְּאַיָּל֖וֹן בְּאֶ֥רֶץ זְבוּלֻֽן׃ {פ}

And Elon the Zevulonite died, and was buried in Ayyalon in the country of Zevulun.

13

And after him ῾Avdon the son of Hillel, a Pir῾atonite, judged Yisra᾽el.

14

And he had forty sons and thirty grandsons, that rode on seventy ass colts: and he judged Yisra᾽el for eight years.

15

וַיָּ֛מׇת עַבְדּ֥וֹן בֶּן־הִלֵּ֖ל הַפִּרְעָתוֹנִ֑י וַיִּקָּבֵ֤ר בְּפִרְעָתוֹן֙ בְּאֶ֣רֶץ אֶפְרַ֔יִם בְּהַ֖ר הָעֲמָלֵקִֽי׃ {פ}

And ῾Avdon the son of Hillel the Pir῾atonite died, and was buried in Pir῾aton in the land of Efrayim, in the mount of the ῾Amaleqi.
