set thy words in order before me; stand up.6הֵן־אֲנִ֣י כְפִ֣יךָ לָאֵ֑ל מֵ֝חֹ֗מֶר קֹרַ֥צְתִּי גַם־אָֽנִי׃Behold, I am towards God as thou art: I also am formed out of the clay.7הִנֵּ֣ה אֵ֭מָתִי לֹ֣א תְבַעֲתֶ֑ךָּ וְ֝אַכְפִּ֗י עָלֶ֥יךָ לֹֽא־יִכְבָּֽד׃Behold, my terror shall not make thee afraid, nor shall my pressure be heavy upon thee.8אַ֭ךְ אָמַ֣רְתָּ בְאׇזְנָ֑י וְק֖וֹל מִלִּ֣ין אֶשְׁמָֽע׃Surely thou hast spoken in my hearing, and I have heard the voice of thy words, saying,9זַ֥ךְ אֲנִ֗י בְּֽלִ֫י־פָ֥שַׁע חַ֥ף אָנֹכִ֑י וְלֹ֖א עָוֺ֣ן לִֽי׃I am clean without transgression, I am innocent; neither is there iniquity in me.10הֵ֣ן תְּ֭נוּאוֹת עָלַ֣י יִמְצָ֑א יַחְשְׁבֵ֖נִי לְאוֹיֵ֣ב לֽוֹ׃Behold, he finds occasions against me, he counts me for his enemy.11יָשֵׂ֣ם בַּסַּ֣ד רַגְלָ֑י יִ֝שְׁמֹ֗ר כׇּל־אׇרְחֹתָֽי׃He puts my feet in the stocks, he marks all my paths.12הֶן־זֹ֣את לֹא־צָדַ֣קְתָּ אֶעֱנֶ֑ךָּ כִּי־יִרְבֶּ֥ה אֱ֝ל֗וֹהַּ מֵאֱנֽוֹשׁ׃Behold, in this thou art not right: I will answer thee, that God is greater than man.13מַ֭דּוּעַ אֵלָ֣יו רִיב֑וֹתָ כִּ֥י כׇל־דְּ֝בָרָ֗יו לֹ֣א יַעֲנֶֽה׃Why dost thou strive against him, seeing that none of his words will answer you.14כִּֽי־בְאַחַ֥ת יְדַבֶּר־אֵ֑ל וּ֝בִשְׁתַּ֗יִם לֹ֣א יְשׁוּרֶֽנָּה׃Surely God speaks once, yea twice, yet man perceives it not.15בַּחֲל֤וֹם ׀ חֶזְי֬וֹן לַ֗יְלָה בִּנְפֹ֣ל תַּ֭רְדֵּמָה עַל־אֲנָשִׁ֑ים בִּ֝תְנוּמ֗וֹת עֲלֵ֣י מִשְׁכָּֽב׃In a dream, in a vision of the night, when deep sleep falls upon men, in slumberings upon the bed,16אָ֣ז יִ֭גְלֶה אֹ֣זֶן אֲנָשִׁ֑ים וּבְמֹ֖סָרָ֣ם יַחְתֹּֽם׃then he opens the ears of men, and with discipline seals their instruction,17לְ֭הָסִיר אָדָ֣ם מַעֲשֶׂ֑ה וְגֵוָ֖ה מִגֶּ֣בֶר יְכַסֶּֽה׃that he may withdraw man from his purpose, and hide pride from man.18יַחְשֹׂ֣ךְ נַ֭פְשׁוֹ מִנִּי־שָׁ֑חַת וְ֝חַיָּת֗וֹ מֵעֲבֹ֥ר בַּשָּֽׁלַח׃He keeps back his soul from the pit, and his life from perishing by the sword.19וְהוּכַ֣ח בְּ֭מַכְאוֹב עַל־מִשְׁכָּב֑וֹ (וריב) [וְר֖וֹב] עֲצָמָ֣יו אֵתָֽן׃He is chastened also with pain upon his bed, and the multitude of his bones with strong pain:20וְזִהֲמַ֣תּוּ חַיָּת֣וֹ לָ֑חֶם וְ֝נַפְשׁ֗וֹ מַאֲכַ֥ל תַּאֲוָֽה׃so that his life abhors bread, and his soul dainty food.21יִ֣כֶל בְּשָׂר֣וֹ מֵרֹ֑אִי (ושפי) [וְשֻׁפּ֥וּ] עַ֝צְמֹתָ֗יו לֹ֣א רֻאּֽוּ׃His flesh is consumed away, that it cannot be seen; and his bones that were not seen stick out.22וַתִּקְרַ֣ב לַשַּׁ֣חַת נַפְשׁ֑וֹ וְ֝חַיָּת֗וֹ לַֽמְמִתִֽים׃For his soul draws near to the pit, and his life to the destroyers.23אִם־יֵ֤שׁ עָלָ֨יו ׀ מַלְאָ֗ךְ מֵלִ֗יץ אֶחָ֥ד מִנִּי־אָ֑לֶף לְהַגִּ֖יד לְאָדָ֣ם יׇשְׁרֽוֹ׃If there be an angel over him, an interpreter, one among a thousand, to declare to man what is right:24וַיְחֻנֶּ֗נּוּ וַיֹּ֗אמֶר פְּ֭דָעֵהוּ מֵרֶ֥דֶת שָׁ֗חַת מָצָ֥אתִי כֹֽפֶר׃then he is gracious to him, and says, Deliver him from going down to the pit: I have found a ransom.25רֻֽטְפַ֣שׁ בְּשָׂר֣וֹ מִנֹּ֑עַר יָ֝שׁ֗וּב לִימֵ֥י עֲלוּמָֽיו׃His flesh shall be smoother than a child’s: he shall return to the days of his youth:26יֶעְתַּ֤ר אֶל־אֱל֨וֹהַּ ׀ וַיִּרְצֵ֗הוּ וַיַּ֣רְא פָּ֭נָיו בִּתְרוּעָ֑ה וַיָּ֥שֶׁב לֶ֝אֱנ֗וֹשׁ צִדְקָתֽוֹ׃he shall pray to God, and he will be favourable to him: and he shall see his face with joy: for he will render to man his righteousness.27יָשֹׁ֤ר ׀ עַל־אֲנָשִׁ֗ים וַיֹּ֗אמֶר חָ֭טָאתִי וְיָשָׁ֥ר הֶעֱוֵ֗יתִי וְלֹא־שָׁ֥וָה לִֽי׃He should then assemble a row of men, and say, I have sinned, and perverted that which was right, and it profited me not.28פָּדָ֣ה (נפשי) [נַ֭פְשׁוֹ] מֵעֲבֹ֣ר בַּשָּׁ֑חַת (וחיתי) [וְ֝חַיָּת֗וֹ] בָּא֥וֹר תִּרְאֶֽה׃Thus he will redeem his soul from going into the pit, and his life shall see the light.29הֶן־כׇּל־אֵ֭לֶּה יִפְעַל־אֵ֑ל פַּעֲמַ֖יִם שָׁל֣וֹשׁ עִם־גָּֽבֶר׃Lo, God does all these things twice or three times with a man,30לְהָשִׁ֣יב נַ֭פְשׁוֹ מִנִּי־שָׁ֑חַת לֵ֝א֗וֹר בְּא֣וֹר הַחַיִּֽים׃to bring back his soul from the pit, to be enlightened with the light of the living.31הַקְשֵׁ֖ב אִיּ֥וֹב שְֽׁמַֽע־לִ֑י הַ֝חֲרֵ֗שׁ וְאָנֹכִ֥י אֲדַבֵּֽר׃Mark well, O Iyyov, hearken to me: hold thy peace, and I will speak.32אִם־יֵשׁ־מִלִּ֥ין הֲשִׁיבֵ֑נִי דַּ֝בֵּ֗ר כִּֽי־חָפַ֥צְתִּי צַדְּקֶֽךָּ׃If thou hast anything to say, answer me: speak, for I desire to justify thee.33אִם־אַ֭יִן אַתָּ֥ה שְֽׁמַֽע־לִ֑י הַ֝חֲרֵ֗שׁ וַאֲאַלֶּפְךָ֥ חׇכְמָֽה׃ {פ}If not, hearken to me: hold thy peace, and I shall teach thee wisdom.
