So all Yisra᾽el were reckoned by genealogies; and, behold, they were written in the book of the kings of Yisra᾽el; and Yehuda was carried away to Bavel for their transgression.

Now the first inhabitants who dwelt in their possessions in their cities were, the Yisra᾽elites, the priests, Levites, and the temple servants.

And in Yerushalayim dwelt some of the children of Yehuda, and some of the children of Binyamin, and some of the children of Efrayim, and Menashshe;

῾Utay the son of ῾Ammihud, the son of ῾Omri, the son of Imri, the son of Bani, of the children of Pereż the son of Yehuda.

And of the Shiloni; ῾Asaya the firstborn, and his sons.

And of the sons of Zeraĥ; Ye῾u᾽el, and their brethren, six hundred and ninety.

And of the sons of Binyamin; Sallu the son of Meshullam, the son of Hodavya, the son of Senu᾽a,

and Yivneya the son of Yeroĥam, and Ela the son of ῾Uzzi, the son of Mikhri, and Meshullam the son of Shefatya, the son of Re῾u᾽el, the son of Yivniyya;

and their brethren, according to their generations, nine hundred and fifty six. All these men were chiefs of the fathers in the houses of their fathers.

And of the priests; Yeda῾ya, and Yehoyariv, and Yakhin,

and ῾Azarya the son of Ḥilqiyya, the son of Meshullam, the son of Żadoq, the son of Merayot, the son of Aĥituv, the ruler of the house of God;

and ῾Adaya the son of Yeroĥam, the son of Pashĥur, the son of Malkiyya, and Ma῾asay the son of ῾Adi᾽el, the son of Yaĥzera, the son of Meshullam, the son of Meshillemit, the son of Immer;

and their brethren, heads of the houses of their fathers, a thousand seven hundred and sixty; very able men for the work of the service of the house of God.

And of the Levites; Shema῾ya the son of Ḥashshuv, the son of ῾Azriqam, the son of Ḥashavya, of the sons of Merari;

and Baqbaqqar, Ḥeresh, and Galal, and Mattanya the son of Mikha, the son of Zikhri, the son of Asaf;

and ῾Ovadya the son of Shema῾ya, the son of Galal, the son of Yedutun, and Berekhya the son of Asa, the son of Elqana, who dwelt in the settlements of the Netofati.

And the gatekeepers were; Shallum, and ῾Aqquv, and Talmon, and Aĥiman, and their brethren: (Shallum being the chief;)

who were hitherto stationed at the king’s gate eastward; they were gatekeepers for the camp of the children of Levi.

And Shallum the son of Qore, the son of Evyasaf, the son of Qoraĥ, and his brethren, of the house of his father, the Qorĥim, were over the work of the service, keepers of the threshold of the tabernacle: and their fathers, being over the camp of the Lord, were keepers of the entry.

And Pineĥas the son of El῾azar was the ruler over them in time past, and the Lord was with him.

And Zekharya the son of Meshelemya was keeper of the door of the Tent of Meeting.

All these who were chosen to be keepers in the thresholds were two hundred and twelve. These were reckoned by their genealogy in their settlements, whom David and Shemu᾽el the seer did establish in their office of trust.

So they and their children had the oversight of the gates of the house of the Lord, the house of the tabernacle, by watches.

On the four sides were the gatekeepers; east, west, north, and south.

And their brethren, who were in their settlements, were to come in every seven days from time to time to be with them.

For these Levites, the four chief gatekeepers, were in an office of trust, and were appointed over the chambers and treasuries of the house of God.

And they lodged round about the house of God, because the charge was upon them, and they had the duty of opening it every morning.

And certain of them had the charge of the vessels of service, that they should bring them in by number and out by number.

Some of them also were appointed to oversee the vessels, and all the instruments of the sanctuary, and the fine flour, and the wine, and the oil, and the frankincense, and the spices.

And some of the sons of the priests made the ointment of the spices.

And Mattitya, one of the Levites, who was the firstborn of Shallum the Qorĥite, was entrusted with that which was prepared in the pans.

And other of their brethren, of the sons of the Qehati, were over the showbread, to prepare it every sabbath.

And these were the singers, chiefs of the fathers’ houses of the Levites, dwelling in the temple chambers free from other duties: for they were employed in that work day and night.

These were chiefs of fathers’ houses of the Levites, chief men by their generations; these dwelt in Yerushalayim.

And in Giv῾on dwelt the father of Giv῾on, Ye῾i᾽el, whose wife’s name was Ma῾akha:

and his firstborn son ῾Avdon, then Żur, and Qish, and Ba῾al, and Ner, and Nadav,

and Gedor, and Aĥyo, and Zekharya, and Miqlot.

And Miqlot begot Shim῾am. And they also dwelt opposite their brethren in Yerushalayim, with their brethren.

And Ner begot Qish; and Qish begot Sha᾽ul; and Sha᾽ul begot Yehonatan, and Malki-shua, and Avinadav, and Eshba῾al.

And the son of Yehonatan was Meriv-ba῾al; and Meriv-ba῾al begot Mikha.

And the sons of Mikha were, Piton, and Melekh, and Taĥrea,

and Aĥaz begot Ya῾ra; and Ya῾ra begot ῾Alemet, and ῾Azmavet, and Zimri; and Zimri begot Moża;

and Moża begot Bin῾a; and Refaya his son, El῾asa his son, Ażel his son.

And Ażel had six sons, whose names were these, ῾Azriqam, Bokheru, and Yishma᾽el, and She῾arya, and ῾Ovadya, and Ḥanan: these were the sons of Ażel.
