II Kings 12 · מלכים ב

Seven years old was Yeho᾽ash when he began to reign.

In the seventh year of Yehu Yeho᾽ash began to reign; and forty years he reigned in Yerushalayim. And his mother’s name was Żivya of Be᾽er-sheva.

And Yeho᾽ash did that which was right in the sight of the Lord all his days as Yehoyada the priest instructed him.

But the high places were not taken away: the people still sacrificed and burnt incense in the high places.

And Yeho᾽ash said to the priests, All the money of the dedicated things which is brought into the house of the Lord, in current money, and the money of persons, by assesment of every man, and all the money that any man is prompted by his heart to bring into the house of the Lord,

let the priests take it to them, every man from his acquaintance: and let them repair the breaches of the house, wherever any breach shall be found.

But it happened in the twenty third year of king Yeho᾽ash, that the priests had not repaired the breaches of the house.

Then king Yeho᾽ash called for Yehoyada the priest, and the other priests, and said to them, Why do you not repair the breaches of the house? now therefore receive no more money of your acquaintances, but deliver it for the breaches of the house.

And the priests consented to receive no more money of the people, nor to repair the breaches of the house.

But Yehoyada the priest took a chest, and bored a hole in the lid of it, and set it beside the altar, on the right side as one comes into the house of the Lord: and the priests that kept the door put in it all the money that was brought into the house of the Lord.

And when they saw that there was much money in the chest, the king’s scribe and the high priest came up, and they tied it in bags, and counted the money that was found in the house of the Lord.

And they gave the money, that was counted, into the hands of them that did the work, that had the oversight of the house of the Lord: and they disbursed it to the carpenters and builders, that worked upon the house of the Lord,

and to masons, and hewers of stone, and to buy timber and hewn stone to repair the breaches of the house of the Lord, and for all that was laid out for the house to repair it.

But there were not made for the house of the Lord bowls of silver, snuffers, basins, trumpets, or any vessels of gold, or vessels of silver, from the money that was brought into the house of the Lord:

for they gave that to the workmen, and they repaired with it the house of the Lord.

Moreover they did not keep accounts with the men, into whose hand they delivered the money to pay out to the workmen: for they dealt in good faith.

The money for guilt offerings and the money for sin offerings was not brought into the house of the Lord: it was delivered to the priests.

Then Ḥaza᾽el king of Aram went up, and fought against Gat, and took it: and Ḥaza᾽el set his face to go up to Yerushalayim.

And Yeho᾽ash king of Yehuda took all the hallowed things that Yehoshafat, and Yehoram and Aĥazyahu, his fathers, kings of Yehuda, had dedicated, and his own hallowed things, and all the gold that was found in the treasures of the house of the Lord, and in the king’s house, and sent it to Ḥaza᾽el king of Aram: and he went away from Yerushalayim.

And the rest of the acts of Yo᾽ash, and all that he did, are they not written in the book of the chronicles of the kings of Yehuda?

And his servants arose, and made a conspiracy, and slew Yo᾽ash in the house of Millo, on the way that goes down to Silla.

For Yozakhar the son of Shim῾at, and Yehozavad the son of Shomer, his servants, smote him, and he died; and they buried him with his fathers in the city of David: and Amażya his son reigned in his stead.
