II Chronicles 30 · דברי הימים ב

1

And Yeĥizqiyyahu sent to all Yisra᾽el and Yehuda, and wrote letters also to Efrayim and Menashshe, that they should come to the house of the Lord at Yerushalayim, to keep the passover to the Lord God of Yisra᾽el.

2

For the king had taken counsel, and his princes, and all the congregation in Yerushalayim, to keep the passover in the second month.

3

For they could not keep it in its time, because the priests had not sanctified themselves sufficiently, nor had the people gathered themselves together to Yerushalayim.

4

And the thing pleased the king and all the congregation.

5

So they established a decree to make proclamation throughout all Yisra᾽el, from Be᾽er-sheva as far as Dan, that they should come to keep the passover to the Lord God of Yisra᾽el at Yerushalayim: for they had not done it for long as it was written.

6

So the runners went with the letters from the king and his princes throughout all Yisra᾽el and Yehuda, and according to the commandment of the king, saying, You children of Yisra᾽el, turn back to the Lord God of Avraham, Yiżĥaq, and Yisra᾽el, and he will turn again to the remnant of you, who have escaped out of the hand of the kings of Ashshur.

7

And be not like your fathers, and like your brethren, who trespassed against the Lord God of their fathers, who therefore gave them up to desolation, as you see.

8

Now be not stiffnecked, as your fathers were, but yield yourselves to the Lord, and enter into his sanctuary, which he has sanctified for ever: and worship the Lord your God, so that the fierceness of his anger may turn away from you.

9

כִּ֣י בְשׁוּבְכֶ֞ם עַל־יְהֹוָ֗ה אֲחֵיכֶ֨ם וּבְנֵיכֶ֤ם לְרַֽחֲמִים֙ לִפְנֵ֣י שֽׁוֹבֵיהֶ֔ם וְלָשׁ֖וּב לָאָ֣רֶץ הַזֹּ֑את כִּֽי־חַנּ֤וּן וְרַחוּם֙ יְהֹוָ֣ה אֱלֹהֵיכֶ֔ם וְלֹֽא־יָסִ֤יר פָּנִים֙ מִכֶּ֔ם אִם־תָּשׁ֖וּבוּ אֵלָֽיו׃ {ס}

For if you return to the Lord, your brethren and your children shall find compassion before those who led them away captive, so that they shall come back into this land: for the Lord your God is gracious, and merciful, and he will not turn away his face from you, if you return to him.

10

So the runners passed from city to city through the country of Efrayim and Menashshe as far as Zevulun: but they laughed them to scorn, and mocked them.

11

Nevertheless certain men of Asher and Menashshe and of Zevulun humbled themselves, and came to Yerushalayim.

12

The hand of God was also upon Yehuda to give them one heart to do the commandment of the king and of the princes, by the word of the Lord.

13

And there assembled at Yerushalayim a numerous concourse to keep the feast of unleavened bread in the second month, a very great congregation.

14

And they arose and took away the altars that were in Yerushalayim, and all the altars for incense they took away, and cast them into the wadi of Qidron.

15

Then they killed the paschal lamb on the fourteenth day of the second month: and the priests and the Levites were ashamed, and they sanctified themselves, and brought in the burnt offerings into the house of the Lord.

16

And they stood in their place according to the form prescribed for them, according to the Tora of Moshe the man of God: the priests sprinkled the blood, which they received from the hand of the Levites.

17

For there were many in the congregation who were not sanctified: therefore the Levites had the charge of the killing of the paschal lambs for every one who was not clean, to sanctify them to the Lord.

18

For a multitude of the people, many of Efrayim, and Menashshe, Yissakhar, and Zevulun had not cleansed themselves, so that they did eat the passover otherwise than it was written. But Yeĥizqiyyahu prayed for them, saying, The good Lord pardon

19

כׇּל־לְבָב֣וֹ הֵכִ֔ין לִדְר֛וֹשׁ הָאֱלֹהִ֥ים ׀ יְהֹוָ֖ה אֱלֹהֵ֣י אֲבוֹתָ֑יו וְלֹ֖א כְּטׇהֳרַ֥ת הַקֹּֽדֶשׁ׃ {ס}

every one who directs his heart to seek God, the Lord God of his fathers, though he be not cleansed according to the purification of the sanctuary.

20

וַיִּשְׁמַ֤ע יְהֹוָה֙ אֶל־יְחִזְקִיָּ֔הוּ וַיִּרְפָּ֖א אֶת־הָעָֽם׃ {ס}

And the Lord hearkened to Yeĥizqiyyahu, and healed the people.

21

וַיַּעֲשׂ֣וּ בְנֵֽי־יִ֠שְׂרָאֵ֠ל הַנִּמְצְאִ֨ים בִּירוּשָׁלַ֜͏ִם אֶת־חַ֧ג הַמַּצּ֛וֹת שִׁבְעַ֥ת יָמִ֖ים בְּשִׂמְחָ֣ה גְדוֹלָ֑ה וּֽמְהַלְלִ֣ים לַ֠יהֹוָ֠ה י֣וֹם ׀ בְּי֞וֹם הַלְוִיִּ֧ם וְהַכֹּהֲנִ֛ים בִּכְלֵי־עֹ֖ז לַיהֹוָֽה׃ {ס}

And the children of Yisra᾽el who were present at Yerushalayim kept the feast of unleavened bread for seven days with great gladness: and the Levites and the priests praised the Lord day by day, singing with loud instruments to the Lord.

22

וַיְדַבֵּ֣ר יְחִזְקִיָּ֗הוּ עַל־לֵב֙ כׇּל־הַלְוִיִּ֔ם הַמַּשְׂכִּילִ֥ים שֵֽׂכֶל־ט֖וֹב לַיהֹוָ֑ה וַיֹּאכְל֤וּ אֶת־הַמּוֹעֵד֙ שִׁבְעַ֣ת הַיָּמִ֔ים מְזַבְּחִים֙ זִבְחֵ֣י שְׁלָמִ֔ים וּמִ֨תְוַדִּ֔ים לַיהֹוָ֖ה אֱלֹהֵ֥י אֲבוֹתֵיהֶֽם׃ {ס}

And Yeĥizqiyyahu spoke encouragement to all the Levites who displayed good sense in the service of the Lord: and they did eat the food of the festival for seven days, offering peace offerings, and giving thanks to the Lord God of their fathers.

23

And the whole assembly took counsel to keep another seven days: and they kept another seven days with gladness.

24

For Ḥizqiyyahu king of Yehuda did give to the congregation a thousand bullocks and seven thousand sheep; and the princes gave to the congregation a thousand bullocks and ten thousand sheep: and a great number of priests sanctified themselves.

25

And all the congregation of Yehuda, with the priests and the Levites, and all the congregation that came out of Yisra᾽el, and the strangers who came out of the land of Yisra᾽el, and who dwelt in Yehuda, rejoiced.

26

וַתְּהִ֥י שִׂמְחָֽה־גְדוֹלָ֖ה בִּירוּשָׁלָ֑͏ִם כִּ֠י מִימֵ֞י שְׁלֹמֹ֤ה בֶן־דָּוִיד֙ מֶ֣לֶךְ יִשְׂרָאֵ֔ל לֹ֥א כָזֹ֖את בִּירוּשָׁלָֽ͏ִם׃ {ס}

So there was great joy in Yerushalayim: for since the time of Shelomo the son of David king of Yisra᾽el there was not the like in Yerushalayim.

27

וַיָּקֻ֜מוּ הַכֹּהֲנִ֤ים הַלְוִיִּם֙ וַיְבָרְכ֣וּ אֶת־הָעָ֔ם וַיִּשָּׁמַ֖ע בְּקוֹלָ֑ם וַתָּב֧וֹא תְפִלָּתָ֛ם לִמְע֥וֹן קׇדְשׁ֖וֹ לַשָּׁמָֽיִם׃ {פ}

Then the priests the Levites arose and blessed the people: and their voice was heard, and their prayer came up to his holy dwelling place, to heaven.
